The very lucrative Louisiana-bred incentive awards programs in a NUTSHELL.
(For the actual By Laws describing the program please visit and chose the link to By Laws Part C). Without question, this is the most comprehensive breeders and owners awards incentive program in North America.

Worldwide Breeders Awards – That's right, if your Louisiana-bred foal hits the board (1st, 2nd or 3rd) in Hong Kong, Australia or anywhere else on the globe including the United States, you get a breeders award.

Breeders Awards are currently paid at 20% for a first, second or third place finish in any stakes race of $25,000 or more at any out-of-state track with the breeders award capped on a maximum purse of $150,000.

In State Breeders Awards – Currently paid at 20% level of purse money earned on in the money (1st, 2nd and 3rd) finishes at all four Louisiana tracks.

Restricted Races – By state law, every track in the state must offer three races every day of a live meet that are restricted to accredited Louisiana-breds. One of these events is designated as a Special Accredited La. Maiden (SALAM) race.

Purse Supplements – Restricted Louisiana bred races are always enhanced by purse supplements and often the restricted race for state-breds will offer a higher purse than an open race with the same conditions. These supplements come from the Video Poker, the Louisiana Thoroughbred Breeders Association’s portion of OTB funds, Breakage and in the past several years from Slot Machines at the tracks.

Multiple State Bred Days – Louisiana is the only state with more than one State Bred Day. Currently we offer four, Louisiana Champions Day in December at Fair Grounds, Louisiana Premier Night in February at Delta Downs, Louisiana Downs Champions Day Louisiana Downs in August and Louisiana Legends Night at Evangeline Downs in conjunction with the July 4th racing program. No other state offers more than one state-bred day!

Stallion Awards – Louisiana offers a very lucrative stallion awards program based on a stallion's progeny finishing 1st, 2nd or 3rd in Allowance, Handicap and Stakes races in state and Stakes races out of state.
